The Philosophies That Guide Us

'Hygge' A Concept Beyond Translation
Noodles Nursery looks to bring joy to our practice through the Hygge Approach. ‘Hygge’ as a concept transcends translation. In Denmark it is felt, lived and experienced and as such to define it systematically would be to undermine its true intention. At its very roots the concept inspires togetherness, warmth, cosiness and belonging. Fostered in the harsh winters of Scandinavia it is principally associated with indoors however as research evolves its underpinning principles can be adapted to the outdoor space.

A New Approach To Happiness
Here at Noodles we place happiness and emotional wellbeing at the center of our approach. Academic literature has always placed an emphasis on how secure emotions are a core component to self-actualisation and intrinsically linked to any human’s capacity to learn. Research has presented Denmark as the second happiest country on the planet; therefore, we feel that blending aspects of their culture and teaching with our own can only serve to enhance the emotional and mental health outcomes for our children and families.

A Worldview Appoach
Conventional education can be seen to focus primarily on outcomes pertaining to logical and linguistical development. Our new approach looks to bring together a fragmented world view, drawing together research spanning from Asia to Central Europe, Scandinavia and North America. Our belief is that through uniting the research and thoughts of human beings growing up with differing cultures and experiences across the world we can evolve education beyond linear academic outcomes and prescribed ideas of intelligence and use this as the foundation for improving wellbeing.

Guided Natural Play
Dating back to Vygotsky the appreciation for the role of the 'scaffolder' or teacher has been slowly evolving over time. Our newly adapted 'Guided Natural Play' model places children and their natural instincts for exploration at the center of our educational approach. Statistical modelling, data analysis and practitioner planning turns everyday activities into wonderful learning opportunities. Provocations and Invitations capture the children's interests while highly skilled practitioners extend thought and reflect language to enhance the learning opportunities of every interaction
